How we make money

We intend to earn commission when people find an installer through this site. That creates an obvious temptation to recommend whatever pays best, so this page explains what we do to make sure it does not happen — and how you can check.

Right now, we earn nothing

We have not signed any affiliate agreements yet, so at the time of writing there are no paid links anywhere on this site and no company is paying us for anything. When that changes, this page changes with it.

What an affiliate link is

A link that tells the company where you came from, so they can pay us a commission if you buy or enquire. It never changes what you pay. Where we use one, we say so next to the link itself rather than only here.

What commission cannot do

Recommendations are produced before any commercial consideration is applied. The engine that ranks improvements has no knowledge of which ones carry a paid link, and a paid link cannot move something up the list.

A commercial link can only appear against something the assessment already put near the top of your list, and only when it found something worth doing at all. If we tell you nothing is worth doing, you will see no offers — which is the case that costs us money and is exactly why it is written down here.

What we will not do

Your details

We never pass your contact details to an installer unless you have ticked a box saying we may. We record the exact wording you agreed to, so it is clear what you said yes to. We hold only the first part of your postcode, and no name or address unless you give one on a quote request.
